Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists Attending Occupational Therapist in performing patient evaluation, relaying information collected to the OTR, and initiating referrals for independent living skills interventions.
Assists Attending Occupational Therapist with patient screening by administering structured tests, client observation, and data collection and organization. Provides feedback to the OTR during patient evaluation process.
Collaborates with and assists Attending Occupational Therapist in patient program planning in order to establish appropriate goals, selects activities to achieve goals and carries out treatment plan under supervision of Attending Occupational Therapist. Assists in adapting present techniques to foster goal achievement which will result in quality patient care.
Assists in discharge planning of the patient by identifying need for continued therapy, addressing current needs of patient and aids in identifying equipment needs to make the person as highly functional as possible in future living situations.
Assists in providing efficient departmental services through planning daily work schedule, preparing and maintaining the work setting, ordering supplies, maintaining records, participating in departmental meetings, and insuring actions comply with departmental standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
Preferred but not required. New graduate accepted.
Education /Licensure:
Required: Successful completion of an Associate of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy and the Associated School Internships.
Successful completion of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Exam.
Certified by the National Board for Certification an Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as a COTA. Licensed in Nebraska as an OTA in good standing.
BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say Professional Level-with AED, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Preferred: Experience in acute, rehab, home or skilled OT care. Specialized experience with neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation positioning and wheelchair evaluations.
Knowledge/skills/abilities:
Excellent interpersonal communication and time management skills required.
