Position Description

Community Health Educator – Health Window

 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
 
The Community Health Educator will plan, coordinate and implement the “Ventilla de Salud” or Health Window at the Mexican Consulate. The Educator will staff the window and coordinate health promotion and disease prevention education, basic screening activities, assistance in making appointments with health providers and OneWorld Community Health Centers. Additionally, the educator will provide presentations and participate in community events and committees as designated. Make presentations to immigrant and refugee groups abut how to access health care in Omaha.
 
As an additional opportunity (if the position is filled by a nurse) includes twice a week, two hour health maintenance activities (or once a week for four hours) at OneWorld’s Intercultural Senior Center. Such activities include, blood pressure screening, assistance making health related appointments, foot care, assistance in understanding medication directions and health related education. 
 
 
REQUIREMENTS
  1. Good communications skills, verbal and written.

  3. Is consistently polite and helpful in dealing with staff, patients and the public.
  4. Involved in industry related education and/or professional organizations. Periodically scans similar organizations and industry sources for new ideas.
  5. Demonstrates ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work conditions and/or project requirements.
  6. Consistently follows through with commitments, provides service/information thoroughly and on time. Is timely in meeting deadlines and accomplishing all job functions.
  7. Takes action without prodding.
  8. Generates innovative ideas and alternatives to work assignments.
  9. Demonstrates high level of integrity.
  10. Provides positive example by adhering to organizational policies.
  11. Demonstrates enthusiasm, interest, and desire to do the best possible job.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelors degree in Nursing, Marketing, or Public Relations preferred. 
  2. Verbal and written proficiency in both Spanish and English.
  3. Data entry speed of 30 words per minute.
  4. Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and insured vehicle.
  5. Willingness to work some nights and weekends.
  6. Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people.
  7. Knowledge of cultural and health issues affecting the patient population of the clinic.
