Position Description

As a leading provider of reproductive health services, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has a rewarding career opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or CNM.   

FUNCTION:       

Provide medical and educational services to patients who include assessment, physical exams and management of health needs as outlined in Medical Standards and Guidelines. Participate in team approach to patient care working cooperatively with others to achieve productivity standards and exceptional customer service. Communicate effectively and sensitively to patients from a wide range of backgrounds and ages, while serving as a patient advocate. 

 
DUTIES:
 
1.       Work with the health care team to meet established productivity standards for center revenue, expense/margin, patient numbers, and quality and customer service.
 
2.       Maintain working knowledge of Planned Parenthood policies and procedures and apply these to patient and clinic services.
 
3.       Secure a complete, health history, including personal, family and social histories; perform physical examinations and document findings in a systematic, accurate and succinct form and maintain appropriate documentation in the patient's medical record.
 
4.       Perform order and interpret diagnostic tests as indicated and oversee follow-up of abnormal results.
 
5.       Manage and treat problems and emergencies per medical standards and guidelines, consulting with a Senior Clinician when indicated. Refer patients for further evaluation, as appropriate.
 
6.       Make and follow through on appropriate medical and social referrals and provide liaison with health and welfare agencies in conjunction with other staff.
 
7.       Assist with training of staff in areas of medical care. Provide consultation to staff regarding follow-up, phone calls and patient scheduling.
 
8.       Participate in the development and implementation of medical standards and guidelines and quality control systems.
 
9.       Serve as a clinical mentor/trainer to students in medical training programs as indicated.
 
10.    Respond to staffing needs at other sites as needed.
 
11.    Participate in on-call rotation as needed.
 
12.    Other duties as assigned.           
 
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of women’s health or family nurse practitioner, nurse midwife or physician assistant training program. National certification by appropriate authority within one year of hire. 1-3 years related experience preferred. Must be able to travel between clinics in Red Oak, IA, Council Bluffs, IA, and Omaha, NE.

LICENSES:

A current Iowa license is required.  Licenses in both Nebraska & Iowa are preferred.  Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.  Commitment to quality healthcare and excellent customer service is necessary.
